The Beat Goes On: Black Voices in the British Music Industry, held at the British Library

In 2024, I was invited to speak at The Beat Goes On: Black Voices in the British Music Industry, an event held in celebration of the British Library’s Beyond the Bassline exhibition. The programme brought together Black entrepreneurs, creatives, and academics to reflect on the legacies, challenges, and ongoing realities of Black British music.

The event created a unique space for critical conversation about how Black creatives and professionals continue to navigate the music industry—past and present. It was a joy and an honour to share insights alongside such inspiring contributors, and to reflect on how entrepreneurship, cultural shifts, and creative labour are shaping the soundscapes of Britain today.
